West End / Playhouse

475, Union Street
Opened in 1915 in a former billiard hall. Reconstructed and renamed the Playhouse, 14.9.21. s. 1,000. Renamed Playhouse Continental, 3.2.59. Closed and demolished in May 1974.
The Playhouse was set well back from the street and on stilts over a dairy at the back, so entrance was through a lower foyer,  and up stairs to the cash box, formerly situated at the street entrance. In an alcove at the left led up to the balcony, or you could double back into what used to a cafe over the foyer.
